Where to Buy an eSIM for Portugal

Where to buy an eSIM for Portugal

Buy it before you fly. It takes 5 minutes at home, and you’ll have data the second you land in Lisbon or Porto. There is no good reason to wait.

Before your trip (do this)

Travel eSIM apps

Download the app, buy a plan, scan the QR code. Your eSIM sits idle until you hit a Portuguese network, then it activates automatically.

Airalo β€” From US$4. Best app experience. Buy, scan, done.

Saily β€” From US$3.99. Slightly cheaper than Airalo, same convenience.

Holafly β€” Unlimited data from US$11.70. The app walks you through everything.

Nomad β€” From ~US$8 for 5 GB. Straightforward app with add-on support.

Direct from Portuguese carriers

MEO eSIM Enjoy β€” From €10. Buy online, QR code sent by email (usually within an hour). Best value for Portugal. The website is a bit clunky, but the product is excellent.

Vodafone Portugal & Europe eSIM β€” Unlimited Portugal data + EU roaming. Order online, install before your trip.

NOS β€” Prepaid eSIM with unlimited data and 5G. Website is mostly in Portuguese. Fine as a backup if MEO is unavailable.

Tip

Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi. Don't wait until you're at the airport. The eSIM won't activate until it sees a Portuguese network, so there's zero downside to installing early.

After arrival (if you forgot)

On airport Wi-Fi

Lisbon (LIS), Porto (OPO), and Faro (FAO) airports all have free Wi-Fi. Connect, buy a plan from any of the apps above, install the eSIM. Takes 10 minutes.

MEO’s eSIM Enjoy can also be ordered on your phone via their website. The QR code arrives by email.

Airport stores

Lisbon Airport has Vodafone and MEO stores in the arrivals area. They sell SIM cards and can help with eSIM setup. Expect a queue during peak hours and slightly worse deals than buying online.

Info

Airport SIM counters are convenient but not the best value. The apps work on airport Wi-Fi, so there's no reason to queue unless you want in-person help.

Carrier stores in the city

MEO stores β€” Throughout Lisbon, Porto, and other cities. Staff can help with eSIM setup.

Vodafone stores β€” Same deal. Present in all major cities and shopping centers.

NOS stores β€” Also available, though less commonly used by tourists.

Do you even need an eSIM?

EU residents, read this

If you have a SIM card from any EU country, your mobile plan already includes roaming in Portugal at no extra cost. You do not need a Portugal eSIM. Just turn on data roaming and use your normal plan. This applies to all EU/EEA countries.
